Gecko
Gecko is a student-run environmental group at Victoria University. It is the environmental group on campus that works on both local and global issues. We are a friendly bunch who want to make the campus more sustainable and improve environmental awareness through the action of students and the general public. In the last two years, we have put pressure on the university to have an environmental policy, which they finally released in 2006. We run stalls in the quad to provide information and healthy food to students. We have regular meetings and welcome anyone who wnats to get involved. Climate change has also been a focus in the last year. We have met with a number of MPs and organised the very successful climate change festival at the paramount theatre. Every year, we take a group to the ECO NZ conference - a great opportunity to meet with other grass roots environmental groups around Aotearoa.
